Opera Parallèle presents Doubt

Content image

Opera Parallèle presents Doubt Presidio Theatre, 99 Moraga Ave, San Francisco Friday, May 29, 2026 at 7:30pm Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 7:30pm Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 3pm

Opera Parallèle returns to the Presidio Theatre May 29–31 with the west coast premiere of Doubt. Adapted from John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize–winning drama and acclaimed film, the opera features a richly atmospheric score by Douglas J. Cuomo, conducted by Nicole Paiement and directed by Brian Staufenbiel. Set within an intimate, church-inspired environment with the orchestra placed onstage, faith, authority, and moral uncertainty draw audiences into the emotional and psychological intricacies of the story, dissolving the boundary between observer and participant in a profoundly immersive theatrical experience. Visit OP's Enhance Your Experience content where you’ll find a rich collection of resources exploring Doubt—from its historical context and cultural impact to behind-the-scenes insights that illuminate the story in new ways and join us for our free community conversation on May 20 at Community Music Center: Unmasking the Comfort of Certainty, as we explore the intersection of institutional power, systemic racism, and the unique power of music to provide sanctuary when words fail.
