As usual, I am behind the times. Hopelessly out of step with current trends. I did not know, for example, that it is now nearly impossible to discern the difference between an actual piece of classical music (or any genre of music for that matter) and a piece "written" by AI. Yes, the moment is upon us. A quick search of the internet (aided and abetted by AI of course) reveals countless videos depicting professional musicians trying to spot the fake music.
I recommend the from the wildly popular violinist (and former Classical Californian) Ray Chen, who puts aside his pride and takes the challenge over and over again. Which is the human composition and which is a piece created entirely by AI? Chen gets it wrong about half of the time! I used to fear the invasion of AI into every creative nook and cranny we humans have, but it's already happened! So many thoughts...
Sure, AI can imitate Mozart and Vivaldi, but can it (he\she\they?) come up with something entirely new and beautiful?
Will the next big classical hit be a product of AI?
Can we do anything to stop it?
Is that necessarily a bad thing?
I'd love to read your comments. (Bots not invited!)
