Yuval Sharon Starts LA Phil Residency with Noon to Midnight
Yuval Sharon has already turned heads with his contemporary opera company, The Industry, known for its productions of HOPSCOTCH and INVISIBLE CITIES. He’s embarked on a three year collaboration with the LA Phil to create experimental projects in and out of Walt Disney Concert Hall. One of those projects is Nimbus, a cloud-like installation hanging over the Walt Disney Concert Hall escalators, playing music composed by Rand Steiger that changes over the course of the day as if it’s a timepiece. Audiences got their first Nimbus experience during the LA Phil’s day of musical happenings, Noon to Midnight, on Oct 1st. I spoke with Sharon about Nimbus, Noon to Midnight, and what else he has planned with the Phil.
During rehearsals for Noon to Midnight, I had a chance to speak with wild-Up’s Christopher Rountree, pianist Vicky Ray of PianoSpheres, Joseph Pereira of the USC Percussion Ensemble, and Jacaranda’s Patrick Scott.
