For several hours yesterday morning, the line to enter San Jose’s Tech Museum of Innovation snaked around the block—a first. Clearly, the word had gotten out: the third annual KDFC Kids Discovery Day was the place to be!

We're searching for the next Mozart and I think we've found'em! Watch the @philharmoniabaroqueorchestra play back children's compositions at KDFC #KidsDiscoveryDay at the Tech!

A post shared by Classical KDFC (@classicalkdfc) on Mar 3, 2019 at 12:28pm PST

Nearly 5,000 people enjoyed widely varied concerts by topnotch artists throughout the day, and children were enthralled by our instrument petting zoo (courtesy of Music in Schools Today), musical workshops (with Music for Minors), the Anatomy of a Violin table with Ifshin Violins, and kid-friendly performances by members of the Peninsula Symphony, the One Found Sound Wind Quintet, the Brazilian beat of Grupo Falso Baiano, and the astonishing voices of Opera San Jose resident artists Katherine Gunnink and Mason Gates.

KDFC is devoted to bringing live classical music directly into the community, in many cases introducing children to the visceral thrills of this transcendent art form. It was also a thrill for the KDFC staff to meet so many children (and their parents!) who came right up to our broadcast booth to meet Dianne Nicolini, Rik Malone, Robin Pressman, Ray White, and Jeffrey Freymann–the hosts they listen to every day.

If you missed all the excitement, we certainly hope to see you next year!
