I’m sad that we have to go through this. But I’m glad to be able to go through it with him.

— Starr Parodi

The January fires put a lot of stress on families. So today on Notes from the Fires, let’s explore how losing their home in the Palisades affected the family of one of the artists we’ve heard from: composer and pianist Starr Parodi.

Host John Rabe talked with Starr, her husband Jeff Eden Fair, who also writes music for tv and the movies, and their daughter Isolde - who plays violin.

And John figured the best place to talk about how the fires have affected their family dynamics was over their family dinner table. So listen in, and raise a glass to going through it together.

We close today with Starr’s solo piano piece, Lucciola.

Notes from the Fires: Tesserae

Perhaps no musicians we’ve heard from in Notes from the Fires so far have lost so much … yet retained so much optimism. Alex Opsahl and Ian Pritchard, founders of the Baroque ensemble Tesserae, were in Europe with their two young boys on January 7.
