A Hilarious New Take on a Christmas Classic

During this season of numerous Nutcrackers, writer and performer Sandra Tsing Loh offers an alternative view of Tchaikovsky’s ballet in a show titled Sugar Plum Fairy, in which she plays a 12-year-old girl who dreams of playing Clara in The Nutcracker.
The story has its roots in Loh’s youth, when her older sister was a great ballet student while she was “the kid who would put a pillowcase on my head and dance to records in the living room.”
Loh left the living room performances behind and embarked on a career as a playwright, actor, radio commentator, educator, and bestselling author. And now, with Sugar Plum Fairy, she’s created a holiday show for all ages which she describes as a “G-rated, Rocky Horror, Yule thing.”

Sandra Tsing Loh’s whimsical Sugar Plum Fairy, a kid-friendly holiday show that includes refreshments, runs through Sunday, December 22nd at The David Henry Hwang Theatre in downtown LA’s Little Tokyo.
